Mathew Simpson
A high achiever in the global financial services and investment industry, Managing Director Mathew Simpson brings a commitment to excellence to Raindrum and First Light Healthcare. His passion for preventative healthcare and a belief that systemic change is crucial to the future health of Australians, led Mathew to focus his skills on creating a preventive, multi-modality medical offering in the Byron region. "Practitioners are putting out spot fires, rather than focusing on preventive healthcare, with long-term consequences for patients," he says. "They are also under pressure from a system where the transactional experience with our GPs has been commoditised." A solutions-orientated corporate strategist, Mathew’s overarching goal is not only to improve the health of patients and clients, but to enable health practitioners to be more effective, and operate more sustainably in their role.
“Our vision is for a model of care where all stakeholders are wellness outcome-orientated." His high-profile career in commodity trading and funds management included Head of Structured Risk and Capital Solutions for the Royal Bank of Scotland in Hong Kong, as well as key positions with National Australia Bank and Western Union. Mathew was an advisor to the Hong Kong and Singapore monetary authorities and worked with Thai and Indian government committees. He was also invited to join the Reserve Bank of Australia’s Foreign Exchange Committee. Relocating to Australia, Mathew and his partner, GP and Raindrum Clinical Director (Medical) Dr Tonya Coren, took over Cape Byron Medical Centre (now First Light Healthcare) in 2016, transforming it to a multi-location, mixed-modality primary healthcare enterprise incorporating general practice, allied health, specialist centre and soon to launch day hospital.
Mathew’s goal has always been to create an environment where his practitioners are supported to practice sustainably end effectively, and where their clients are empowered with insight and appropriate support mechanisms to enable them to lead their own version of a good life.
The recent launch of Raindrum encapsulates he and his wife's vision to provide targeted wellness solutions for discerning clients - individuals and organizations - across key industries and chosen fields.
As a busy executive, with a demanding career, Mathew says he knew the challenges of maintaining a healthy diet, exercise program and mental health. He searched for a comprehensive, preventive health and wellness program for professionals in a high-performance environment. Not finding one that he believed addressed all aspects of the human condition, Mathew sought to bring together a team that could create the ideal, total health model.
Raindrum tailored treatment programs include Executive Stress and Burnout, Addiction and Dependency, Sports and Performance, Relationships, Eating Disorders and more. These are designed to be of relevance both in crisis and throughout life to anyone who wants to realise their full potential and a greater sense of wellness.
Growing up in regional New South Wales, with parents who were actively involved in the community, Mathew enjoys harnessing his skills and experience to make an impact he can be proud of.
He has three children, Harry, Lola and Charlie. He is actively involved in kids sports and other community focused initiatives. His personal goal is to scale the world's Seven Summits, several of which he has already conquered.
